Your City – Your Future

Are you living in a city that has transportation problems, poor infrastructure, lack of vision for future growth, or wasted energy?  If so, you will want to be a participant at Kirkland’s Startup Weekend on Smart Cities.

Rethinking how cities work in the Puget Sound will be increasingly necessary as people flock to our urban centers.  The Puget Sound Regional Council estimates the region will grow by more than one million people by 2040. , Kirkland Startup Weekend participants will explore new applications of technology to mitigate the environmental impact of sprawl.   These innovations will work to change how healthcare services are delivered, improve education, relieve traffic congestion and maximize the collaboration of arts and business.

Participants may want to ask themselves prior to the Startup Weekend:

  • What is my vision of a smarter city?
  • How can I deliver enough clean water to my city?
  • How can I accelerate economic development in my city?
  • How can I reduce carbon emissions in my city?
  • How can I improve mobility in my city?

Please join us.  Kirkland’s Startup Weekend on Smart Cities will be November 4-6, 2016.

A Startup Weekend is 54 hours of intense creativity.  You will experience what it is like to create a new startup company.  As you learn how to create a real company or invention, you’ll meet the very best mentors, investors, cofounders, and sponsors who are ready to help you get started.

All Startup Weekend events follow the same basic model: Anyone is welcome to pitch their startup idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then it’s a 54-hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, UX/design, and market validation. The weekend culminates with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for feedback and to win prizes. This event is focused exclusively on Smart City ideas.
