The Kirkland Small Business Relief Fund“Round Two of the Small Business Relief Fund closed on Sunday, August 9, 2020.”
Winners of the lottery heard if they were a winner on Thursday, August 13, 2020. Those who were not successful should have heard shortly afterwards.
01. Strategic
The Kirkland Small Business Relief fund goal provided immediate relief to Kirkland’s hardest-hit small businesses & small nonprofits in the form of unrestricted grants that were to be used for business expenses incurred during the COVID-19 crisis, such as rent, utilities, employee salaries, and other operating expenses.
02. Professional
The second round of the Kirkland Small Business Relief Fund opened on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 9 AM and closed on Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 6 PM. All qualified applicants were entered into a lottery to receive a grant. All monies were distributed equally amongst the lottery winners.
03. Fiscal
The Kirkland Chamber Foundation acted as fiscal agent for the Kirkland Small Business Relief Fund. It managed all contributions. A committee of vetted community leaders monitored the unbiased process regarding the lottery and dispersal of the grant.
At the end of March 2020, Google, The City of Kirkland, and the Greater Kirkland Chamber of Commerce/Kirkland Chamber Foundation, announced the creation of a Kirkland Small Business Relief Fund (Tranche 1).
This initial seed funding of $250,000 from Google.org benefited 250 qualifying small businesses in Kirkland. Over the following couple of months the Kirkland Chamber Foundation received donations for Tranche 2 in the amount of just over $200,000. The Application Process for Round 2 opened on Monday, August 3, 2020 at 9 AM and closed the following Sunday, August 9, 2020 at 6 PM.
About the Fund
The Kirkland Small Business Relief Fund aimed to provide immediate financial assistance to Kirkland’s hardest hit small businesses and small nonprofits, in the form of unrestricted grants to support rent, employee salaries, and operating costs.
This fund was open to all Kirkland small businesses and nonprofits with fewer than 25 employees.
Applicants businesses were required to have a current Kirkland business license. Businesses who applied, had to show they have experienced a reduction in revenue from July 2019 to July 2020, as reported to the State of Washington Department of Revenue.
After a business filed its application and it had been reviewed, the business was entered into a lottery. Two hundred (200) Kirkland businesses will benefit from this fund.

The application process opens at 9 AM on Monday, August 3, 2020 Pacific Time. And will close at 6 PM on Sunday, August 9, 2020, Pacific Time.
We will be distributing donations during the week of August 18, 2020. Business owners who have applied for a grant will be entered into a lottery.
We recommend that all interested parties return to our home page frequently, where we will post upcoming grants being made available for the small business community in the Eastside area.
