Lake Washington School District and Foundation

Lake Washington School District is the public school district for the cities of Kirkland, Redmond, and half of Sammamish. The Lake Washington Schools Foundation funds programs that have been cut or diminished by reduced state funding so those programs may continue.

THE LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOL DISTRICT

Lake Washington School District (LWSD) is located between Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains, to the east of Seattle at 16250 NE 74th St, Redmond, WA 98052, phone: (425) 936-1200. Covering 76 square miles, LWSD is the public school district for the cities of Kirkland and Redmond, as well as about half of Sammamish. On the north end of the district, some Bothell and Woodinville residents also attend our schools. The district map shows school locations and boundaries.

The Mission of LWSD is that each student will graduate prepared to lead a rewarding, responsible life as a contributing member of our community and greater society.

Its Vision is that every student is ‘Future Ready;’ prepared for college; prepared for the global workplace and prepared for personal success.

School enrollment as of October 2017 is 29,572 students.

More information about LWSD can be found on the school district website.

LAKE WASHINGTON SCHOOLS FOUNDATION

Its Founding

In 2004, a dedicated group of community members joined together, committed to working with Redmond, Kirkland, and Sammamish parents, businesses, and community leaders in support of our future-the 25,000 students in the Lake Washington School District.

Research showed that support from a schools foundation raises test scores and increases individual student potential and performance.  Schools foundations provide the enrichment opportunities that local levies cannot fund.  Most of the Lake Washington School District neighboring school districts have a schools foundation that each raise between $100,000 and $2 M per year for supplemental educational opportunities.

Since the Lake Washington Schools Foundation was established, it has raised over $1.6 million from its generous community and has funded programs that have touched almost every student in the District. These programs ensure equal access to educational opportunities, quality teaching and leadership, and future-ready skills.
